A Little More House....

I just thought I would share an update on the house we're building right now!  We're scheduled to move in at the end of November, and things are really starting to pull together.  The stucco is half-way done, the walls are getting their finishing coats of paint today and tomorrow, and we went and picked out all the fixtures on Wednesday.

Here are a couple quick pictures I took yesterday.

Race to 2,000

I've been thinking about something fun to do for all of my wonderful supporters lately, and I think I've come up with something great!

How about a race to 2,000 fans?

Here's how it will work:
This will be a referral contest on my Facebook page, with multiple winners!
Anyone/everyone can participate and you can decide to take part at any time.
Businesses are welcome to participate as well - please just make sure I know who to give credit to for referrals during the contest.
The contest will continue until I reach 2,000 Facebook fans (I'm at 1,435 right now, so it could last a week or three months - that's up to all of you!).
Make sure you let your referrals know to tell me who sent them - I can't count them if I don't know where they came from.

The top three winners will receive their choice of patterns or actual products:

Anyone who sends at least 10 new fans to my page during the contest will be entered into a drawing for one free pattern of their choice.
Anyone who sends at least 20 new fans to my page during the contest will win one free pattern of their choice.
The third place winner in the contest will get 2 free patterns of choice or their choice of one newborn - 6-12 month size headband that I sell the pattern for in my shop.
The second place winner in the contest will get 3 free patterns of choice or their choice of one newborn - 6-12 month size headband that I sell the pattern for in my shop.
Lastly, the first place winner of the contest will get 10 free patterns of choice!! (That's almost all my patterns so far.) or their choice of one newborn - 6-12 month size hat that I sell the pattern for in my shop.

This contest is in no way associated with Facebook.

Have any questions?  Just ask!

Happy referring!

Pattern Winners!

Alright everyone, here are our winners!  I'm sorry that the blog was giving everyone some trouble, and not letting some of you post comments....I'll have to get some kinks worked out before we give it another shot.  Anyways, I really enjoyed hearing a bit about all of you, and I'm so happy to have you knitting up my patterns!  Thank you so much!

The winners of their choice of one free pattern are: Dawana Cemer, Rachel Mitchell (These two had to enter through Facebook because their comments weren't showing up), and Brenda - the one with three grandkids who she loves, loves, loves to knit for (there were two)!  Please e-mail me at melodysmakings@hotmail.com to claim your patterns, ladies.

Thanks so much for stopping by the blog, and make sure you continue to pop your head in every once in a while as I'll be doing some games, freebies, and other fun stuff that I may or may not be announcing on Facebook :)

Stay-At-Home-Mom Celebration!

Sorry that I haven't updated the blog in a little while....it has been a bit wild around here lately.  This is a little run down of what my family is up to:

- My husband is 4 months into his new job as a police officer and is working graveyards.
- We have a 6-month old baby (we all know how time consuming that can be!).
- I'm working on this business like mad.
- We are in the middle of building a new house (we are building it ourselves too - my father-in-law is amazing, and he and a family friend are doing almost all the work themselves, with my husband helping whenever he can).

(Had to slip this in here, lol)

So, needless to say, I've been having trouble keeping up with myself!!  I sure appreciate all of you patiently awaiting the next pattern, and always being so wonderfully supportive when I am able to get new ones out.

My last blog was about how my husband and I had been going around about me quitting my job....and....I finally get to!!! Yay!  Tomorrow is my last day at work, and I will be stay-at-home full time!  Charlie and I will hang out during the day, and I'll be ferociously knitting away at night (I'll find time to sleep in there somewhere, ha ha).

In celebration of all the wonderful things going on in my life, but mostly of being able to stay home full-time, I'd like to do a little give away!!  I also think it will be a nice bribe to get people to come visit my blog and comment letting me know just a little bit about them....I'd really love to know a bit more about the people I spend so much of my day with :)

So, there will be three winners, and each will win a pattern of their choice!  In order to enter, follow my blog, share my Facebook page on your Facebook wall, business page, blogs, etc. and comment below letting me know a bit about yourself - something like your name, whether you mainly knit or crochet, and then something fun!  I will randomly select the three winners out of those who participate Friday evening.

I can't wait to meet all of you!!  Fun, fun, fun!

It's All Riding On A Cupcake.

It struck me to write this blog because of the auction for the cupcake hat that I have going on right now.  Some people might think it's odd that I'm letting the auction determine whether I get to stay at home with my baby and work on this business more, or continue on with my current job.  It is a little peculiar that it's all riding on a cupcake:

My husband and I have been going around for a while now about whether I can quit my current job and dive into this little business of mine head on.  I know that if I just had a little more time, then I could make things happen, and I'd be making enough money to fill the gap.  He, on the other hand, is a little more skeptical.  Thus, we made the deal.  If I can sell the cupcake hat for a certain amount at auction (seems a little unfair to tell the amount), then I can put in my 2 weeks at my job tonight.

I'm still not sure if I'll make it to the goal number or not (you just really never know with these things!), but I just had to say "thank you" to some really loyal customers (and friends) that I've made through this business.  I sat down at the computer this morning after posting about the auction, and found that the two people bidding are two people who could easily make this cupcake themselves!!  I know this, because they have both bought patterns from me in the past, and I have exchanged e-mails with both of them on a personal level.  It strikes me, once again, that crafting is truly an amazing hobby that can bring people together in a very special way.

So, thank you ladies for trying to help me out (you know who you are!).  I hope to be able to return the kind gesture in the future.

Enjoy your Saturday.

Hello, my name is Melody....

if you haven't already figured that out, ha ha.  I decided to start a blog because I've been thinking a lot lately about how amazing crafting can be.  I've only really just started turning my craft into something more, and already I have met and spoken with COUNTLESS amazing people from all over the world!

I feel so lucky to make these connections, but sometimes I feel like I haven't done a whole lot to try and connect back.  I don't like clogging up anybody's newsfeeds with things most people really don't care about.  So, here I am.  This will be where I post a bit more about myself personally, and where I hope you might introduce yourselves and touch base with me from time to time.  I'm excited to get started!

First off, this is me and my now five month old son, Charlie:
